WebPrimary hyperparathyroidism is when one or more of the parathyroid glands makes too much parathyroid hormone, which draws calcium from the bones into the blood, weakening bone density and raising blood calcium level. In normocalcemic PHPT, the parathyroid glands are releasing too much hormone, but the blood calcium level has not risen yet. WebHyperparathyroidism occurs when there is an excess of parathyroid hormone (PTH) being secreted from the parathyroid glands in the neck. It is a prevalent condition seen in both primary and secondary care as primary hyperparathyroidism is the most common cause of hypercalcaemia, followed by malignancy. 1.
